Pirates of the Caribbean, starring Johnny Depp, has been nominated for six MTV Movie awards. The awards, which are the most irreverent of the awards season, will be handed out in Los Angeles on 5 June.
The Return of the King has just two nominations,best film and best action sequence, despite an Oscar clean sweep.
Pirates has nominations for best film, best male (Depp) and best villain for Geoffrey Rush. Comedy 50 First Dates and Xmen 2 have four nominations each.
Acting awards
50 First Dates is the only movie to have both leading characters - Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore - nominated in the best male and best female performance categories.
Other leading actresses nominated for best female include Uma Thurman for her performance in Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill Vol.1, Monster's Charlize Theron, Halle Berry for her role in Gothika and Queen Latifah for Bringing Down The House.
Johnny Depp and Tom Cruise are at crossed swords for the best male category for their respective roles in Pirates Of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl and The Last Samurai.
Jim Caviezel who plays Christ in Mel Gibson's controversial film The Passion of Christ has also been nominated for best male.
Bill Murray who lost out to Sean Penn at the Oscars is also nominated along with Sandler.
