Depp plays a noble pirate in the film |
Actor Johnny Depp joined 1,500 fans for a Disneyland premire of his latest film Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. "This is surreal," Depp said as he arrived on a 900-foot-long red carpet on Saturday.
Depp was joined by co-stars Orlando Bloom, Geoffrey Rush and Keira Knightly, the British star of Bend it Like Beckham. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer also made an appearance.
Depp plays a noble pirate who befriends a British officer (Bloom) trying to save his childhood friend (Knightly) from the clutches of Captain Blackheart, played by Rush.
The premire was held in the amusement park because it is named after the ride Pirates of the Caribbean, one of Disneyland's top attractions.
"This is where the idea of the movie originated, this is where the inspiration came from and this was the right place for the premire," said Richard Cook, chairman of Walt Disney Studios.
The film was shown on a giant screen in the park's Tom Sawyer Island.
The movie opens in the US on 9 July.
Last year the film's shoot was plunged into chaos when a fire broke out at one of the stages at the studio in Burbank, California, causing more than $350,000 (224,000) of damage.
