The seller on the popular auction website, who retrieved the gum outside London's Sanderson hotel, at first used Spears' DNA as the main selling point.

But the advert was removed because it contravened eBay's Human Body Parts and Remains policy.

The advert is now back up with no DNA reference - bids have reached �790.

The description now reads: "I am now allowed to list this item with a few alterations to my wording... it was put into an airtight container and has not been touched since it was inside Britney's mouth.

The gum has teeth marks in it, says the seller

"It is completely preserved as you can see, with Britney's teeth marks highly visible! This is the chance to own a piece of pop history - right from the mouth of the princess of pop herself!"

There is no guarantee that the gum is authentic, but potential buyers can contact the seller direct and then use their own judgement to decide.

In July, a Boston hotel began inviting guests to stay in a replica of pop star Britney Spears' bedroom.

The singer's mother Lynne Spears designed the Onyx Hotel room, which costs up to $349 (�188) per night.

It includes Britney Spears CDs and a DVD of her 2002 movie Crossroads. The room's minibar is stocked with the 22-year-old's favourite snacks.

The singer's latest tour, which was cut short in June when she injured her knee, was named after the hotel.
