Spears' summer tour was scheduled to begin on 22 June |
Singer Britney Spears has cancelled the summer leg of her North American tour after injuring her left knee during a New York video shoot. Spears must stay off her feet for six weeks with her knee in a hard brace, according to her record label Jive.
The 22-year-old will then undergo eight to 12 weeks of rehabilitation.
Spears' 36-city Onyx Hotel tour was due to run from 22 June to 15 August. Jive Records said the pop star "hopes to revisit those cities in future".
Spears underwent arthroscopic surgery in New York last Wednesday after her knee "gave out" during a late-night video shoot for her next single, Outrageous.
Wrong step
The injury occurred on Tuesday, shortly after Spears had completed a scene with rap star Snoop Dogg at a Manhattan subway.
"She obviously took a wrong step and blew out her knee," a Jive spokeswoman said at the time. "It was an old dance injury."
Spears was forced to cancel two shows in March because of a previous knee problem.
It is not known if the injury will affect her plans to perform for the first time in China later this year.
