Uma Thurman is out for revenge |
Don't expect a story from the second volume of Kill Bill - this Tarantino revenge sequel is more like a dance movie where each high kick connects with someone's neck.
Uma Thurman is still knocking off the people involved in spoiling her wedding day. Hopefully the photos came out okay, or else.
It doesn't feel the equal of the first volume but then it's not quite as if these were the deleted scenes from that. It's still visually arresting.
But don't rush to see it if you haven't seen Volume 1.
The extras are perfunctory enough that you get the feeling a Special Edition must be on its way but there's no official word of that just yet.
Pitch Black: Special Edition
To give it its new title, this is Chronicles of Riddick: Pitch Black: Special Edition. It has been released to tie in with the new Riddick film.
That's nice. Pitch Black was a quiet success: a lowish budget film that did better than expected and which I'm too scared to watch all the way through.
Pitch Black is not for those who scare easily |
It's a typical tale of people who crash land on an alien planet that they think is deserted. Right. Sure.
Simple but frightening, it looks good and the Special Edition chiefly adds two good audio commentaries.
There are many more extras but they are canted toward making you want to see the new film and they singularly fail in that respect.
Friends: Final Season
The final season of Friends brought us fewer episodes than any previous run so the 79.99 price of the DVD may seem expensive.
It was a very good show and it's hard to resist season boxsets but given the price and also perhaps just how clunky the finale is, skip it for now.
How popular are you? Can you twist someone's arm to give it you for Christmas? There will probably be a cheaper US release eventually, too.
But if you do go for it, this last run has some smart and funny moments.
