A group of young musicians has been chosen as the recipients of the BBC's Fame Academy bursaries. The five winners will each be assigned a mentor who is considered the best in their chosen field, as well as musical education for up to three years.
The winners include Daniel Allinson, 17, who plays the marimba (a type of xylophone) and violinist David Rimbault, 23.
They will be featured in a programme on BBC One on 21 March.
Fame Academy: The Next Generation follows 20 musicians as they are assessed by experts including Jamie Cullum and Fame Academy coaches David and Carrie Grant.
Leg up
The bursaries come from a charity funded by the 2.7m generated over the series, intended for promising musicians under the age of 30.
One of the trustees of the bursary is former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney.
"This is a fantastic way to give really talented young musicians throughout the UK the chance to develop their musical skills," he said.
"It can give some a leg up through being able to own their own instrument or put others into the right educational environment to really blossom as a performer."
Other winners are: Rapper Vishal Gopal, 23; Daniel Powell, 18, who plays the tenor horn; and Shona Kipling, 18, who plays the accordion.
