Barbershop sequel tops US chart

Barbershop reunites Cedric and Ice Cube
Comedy Barbershop 2 has topped the North American box office in its debut weekend, taking $25.1m (�13.5m).

Barbershop 2 reunites Ice Cube and Cedric the Entertainer from 2002's hit comedy set in a clip joint in Chicago.

Kurt Russell's feel-good hockey film Miracle opened at number two with $19.4m (�10.4m), according to estimates.

The family film Catch That Kid, about a girl who organises a bank robbery to pay for her father's surgery, opened at number six with $6m (�3.2m).

The overall box office fell, with the top 12 movies grossing $92.8m (�50m), down 9% from the same weekend last year.

Showing on 2,711 screens, Barbershop 2 averaged a strong $9,259 per screen, compared to a $7,464 average in 2,605 cinemas for Miracle.

The film also features Queen Latifah in a small role as a salon owner next door, the setting for her own spin-off movie, Beauty Shop, which is due for release in November.

Bernardo Bertolucci 's The Dreamers debuted with $150,078 (�80,000) at five cinemas in New York and Los Angeles, scoring an impressive average of $30,016 (�16,100) a cinema.
