Beckham 'set to miss number one'
Victoria Beckham
Victoria Beckham has had limited success since her Spice Girls days
Victoria Beckham is likely to be beaten to the first number one single of 2004 by Christmas chart-topper Gary Jules.

The former Spice Girl released double A-side single This Groove/ Let Your Head Go on Monday.

But early sales figures show she is on course to reach number two behind Jules' Mad World but ahead of Ozzy and Kelly Osbourne's duet Changes.

HMV pokesman Gennaro Castaldo said: "Victoria is catching up. She'll have her highest spot as a solo artist."

Beckham has had limited success since the Spice Girls' last single release in November 2000.

Her only other solo singles, Not Such An Innocent Girl and A Mind Of Its Own, both stalled at number six.

Out Of Your Mind, a collaboration with True Steppers and Dane Bowers, reached number two in August 2000.

Meanwhile, Fame Academy runner-up Alistair Griffin is set for a top five hit with his debut single, Bring It On/ A Lover's Prayer.
