Country star's drink-drive charge
Glen Campbell
Campbell allegedly assaulted a police officer during his arrest
Country singer Glen Campbell has been charged with drink-driving and assault over an alleged hit-and-run crash.

He was arrested in his home town of Phoenix, Arizona, on 25 November.

He is also accused of hitting a police officer at Phoenix's Madison Street Jail after he was arrested.

Campbell, best known for Rhinestone Cowboy, has been formally charged with aggravated assault, drunken driving, extreme drunken driving and leaving the scene of an accident.

Police said the incident began at about 1700 local time (0000 GMT) when Campbell's silver BMW car slammed into a white Toyota at a Phoenix intersection and carried on.

He was later arrested at his home at the Biltmore Estates in an affluent district of Phoenix.

Extreme drunken driving under Arizona law applies to a blood alcohol level of more than 0.15%.

Campbell, 67, apologised for his arrest last week and blamed it on the anti-anxiety drug Lexapro.
