Alan Partridge specials are in the wings, says Coogan |
BBC Two hit comedy I'm Alan Partridge leads the field for the British Comedy Awards, picking up three nominations, including best TV comedy and actor. The show, starring Steve Coogan, will compete in the TV comedy category alongside Coupling and Bo Selecta.
Presenting duo Ant and Dec will battle it out with chat show hosts Jonathan Ross and Graham Norton for Personality of the Year.
Ross will be hosting the awards on 10 December, to be screened live on ITV1.
He is also up for best comedy entertainment programme, for his Friday night chat show, competing with Ant and Dec for Saturday Takeaway.
Comic Relief Fame Academy, which saw Jo Brand and Ruby Wax imitate the Cheeky Girls, is also nominated in that category.
Swearing
Alan Partridge creator Coogan is shortlisted for best actor alongside Martin Clunes for Booze Cruise and William and Mary, and Rob Brydon for spoof fly-on-the wall series Marion and Geoff.
The female comedy actress prize will be fought out between Alistair McGowan's impressionist partner Ronni Ancona, Julie Walters for The Canterbury Tales and Felicity Montagu, who plays the long-suffering PA in I'm Alan Partridge.
At Home With The Braithwaites, Cold Feet and Teachers will battle it out for best comedy drama.
Last year's award ceremony was criticised by the Broadcasting Standards Commission for the excessive swearing that went out during the live and unedited broadcast.
