Leave Right now is the first single from new album Friday's Child |
Pop idol Will Young has gone straight to the top of the charts as the race for Christmas number one hots up. His single Leave Right Now is the first to be taken from forthcoming second album Friday's Child.
Young, who won last year's Pop Idol competition, beat Eastenders star Shane Richie to the top spot.
His Wham! cover I'm Your Man debuted at number two. Westlife's Mandy fell two places to number three, but their new album topped the album charts.
Their album, Turnaround, knocked pop legend Michael Jackson's Number Ones collection off the top spot.
However, Jackson - who is being investigated over allegations of child abuse - saw his song One More Chance go straight in at number five in the singles chart.
Girls Aloud's single Jump fell two place to number four while, outside the top 10, Me Against the Music by Britney Spears, crashed five places to number 11.
In the album chart, Dido's Life For Rent stayed at number three while Fame Academy Winner Alex Parks' debut Introduction was a new entry at number five - one place behind Busted's A Present For Everyone.
Enrique Iglesias missed out on the top ten with new album Seven which was a new entry at number 13.
