Acorn Antiques, with Wood (second right) was a huge hit |
Acorn Antiques, the Victoria Wood TV sketch that featured Julie Walters as a decrepit cleaner, is set to be made into a musical. Comedian Wood is writing a West End version of the skit, which was hugely popular in the 1980s.
"I've always wanted to write a musical and I couldn't resist the collision of song, dance and Mrs Overall," she said.
Wood has completed a first draft of the script, and hopes to put the show on stage next year.
"I just want to give people a lovely, happy night in the theatre," Wood said, adding she wanted to reunite as many of the original cast as possible, "diaries and hips permitting".
Wood played Berta in the skit, with Celia Imrie as Miss Babs and Duncan Preston as Clifford. It ran on Wood's Bafta-winning BBC show, which ended in 1986.
