The Proms is in its 109th year |
The annual BBC Proms hosts 73 concerts at the Royal Albert Hall from mid-July until 13 September. This year's Proms theme is Greek myths and includes Stravinsky's Persphone, Berlioz's The Trojans and Purcell's Dido and Aeneas.
The Last Night of the Proms will feature works by Bizet and Saint-Sans alongside traditional pieces such as Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance and Auld Lang Syne.
So what do you think?
Have you been to the Proms this year? What did you think of the performances and choice of music?
Have not been for some time. But it's nice to be back with the other prommers who have made me very welcome. It's like a big family everybody knows everybody. First concert last night number 17. The BBC played well under Sir Andrew Davis. Delightful atmosphere, nice to be back. Well done BBC.

It's the same thing every year. Nothing fun about it anymore.

I am a season ticket holder and have been to several of the concerts. Most memorable so far has to be John Adams' On The Transmigration of Souls - a piece written in the wake of the September 11 attacks.
Whilst I enjoy being introduced to new and overlooked works, I would like to see more of the core classical repetoire next year.

Like most years, the Proms is yet again a mixture of the safe and woefully familiar with the supposed "trendy" new works by "trendy" composers. It's time the BBC brought in a policy where works cannot be repeated every year or two. This would ensure the promotion of lesser known works and the expense of the same old Beethoven symphonies, Brahms concerti and the like.

The music at the Proms is fantastic every year. Unfortunately, a sad little clique of Arena season ticket holders ruins the event on an annual basis for everybody else in the hall!

We went to the Flying Proms at Duxford on Saturday - marvellous (even if it did tip it down). The fireworks at the end were magnificent. Definitely do that again next year.
