The show has already been sold to 25 countries

Boo! is a new animated show made by the team who created the BBC's popular children's show Tweenies.

The show is aimed at the under-fives. It features a character called Boo who plays hide-and-seek in various locations with his friends Laughing Duck, Sleeping Bear and Growling Tiger.

"Whilst trying to find Boo the viewers are introduced to the new location with new words, sounds, colours, numbers and meanings," a BBC spokeswoman said.

"When Boo is found he becomes a character specific to that location - for example if in space Boo becomes 'Space Boo'."

The show, made by Tell-Tale Productions, will feature locations such as prehistoric Earth and modern cities, and will introduce children to three new words each episode.

"The series has been produced with the help of an education adviser and it aims to introduce young viewers to new words, experiences and environments around the world," the spokeswoman said.

"Boo! will be part of the CBeebies slot which transmits on BBC Two daily. It will complement the programmes we have for our pre-school viewers and we're sure the kids will love it."

Global hits

The 10-minute show is running for 13 weeks, at 0930 each day on BBC Two.

The BBC is hoping the show will be as successful as some of their previous children's hits. It has already been sold to 25 countries, BBC News Online was told on Monday.

A spokeswoman for Tell-Tale said that in some countries "more than one broadcaster were interested in showing the programme".

Tweenies, featuring a family of day-glo characters, has become a global hit, having been sold to more than 50 countries, including the US's Nickelodeon cable channel.
