Paul Daniels' wife Debbiee McGee is at the magician's bedside |
TV magician Paul Daniels is improving in hospital after collapsing as he prepared to take the stage, doctors have said. The millionaire, 64, was due to perform his two-hour Audience With Paul Daniels Show at the Portico Theatre in the Isle of Wight on Tuesday, when he fell ill.
Doctors at St Mary's Hospital, in Newport, said tests had shown he was suffering from an infection.
Officials said on Thursday he would be spending another night in hospital as his recovery continued.
A spokesman for Daniels said: "All of the tests have now been carried out and they have all come back and proved negative, we are now looking at it as a virus.
"There is nothing to come out of these tests which are sinister and they have showed that Paul has no major problems - he is going to be okay."
His wife Debbie McGee remains at his bedside.
Daniels remains under observation, but the results of medical tests have ruled out a heart attack.
In 1979 he teamed up with assistant McGee, who became his second wife when they married in April 1988.
He recently returned from working in Australia to embark on a UK tour.
