Celine Dion in Las Vegas: Your views
Celine Dion
The Caesar's Palace theatre holds 4.100 people

Canadian singer Celine Dion has launched her run at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas, where she will perform about 600 shows over the next three years.

To prepare for the gruelling schedule Dion took a two-year break from showbusiness to spend time with her husband and manager Rene Angelil and baby Rene Charles.

Dion is being paid a reported $100m (66m) for five 90-minute concerts a week in the gambling city.

But what do you think?

Celine has matured a great deal since her return to the stage. This maturity showed in her performance. However Sarah Brightman far out shines Celine in the mystical stage sets.

I loved it, it was exciting, a truly spectacular event, makes me want to go to Las Vegas to see the show. I know it is expensive, but how often does one do this kind of thing.
Lynn Tiefenbach, Canada

It was a lacklustre, pathetic performance. I was so embarrassed just watching, I had to walk out!!!!
Roger la Praire, USA

I think the show is awesome, I only saw the concert on CBS but it was awesome. I wish Celine the best of luck in the future. She is the greatest female singer ever!
Nick Holzer, USA

My wife dragged me along and it was the most excruiating night of my life
Joe Kintz, Hong Kong

Celine's voice was, as usual, superb, however I was disapponted with the show. I thought the dancing was not to as exciting as I had hoped. The dancers and their performances on Cher's Live 1999 show have really spoiled me.
Alannah, Canada

What happened to her hair? Her show was so-so, but five nights a week for three years - no way.
Clover, Canada

Celine's show was great but I did not like her outfit, it did nothing for her. And her hair - the shorter style is nice but makes her look older. Also, the dancers just seemed to be running around, it was confusing. Celine has such a marvellous voice and I enjoyed her variety of songs. She can sing anything and it will sound great. I would love to see her in person but I cannot (cost) so I will have to be happy and watch her on TV. She has the voice of an angel.
Barb Allin, Canada

My wife dragged me along and it was the most excruiating night of my life. It was like watching the film Showgirls, the only difference being the lead tart is 20 years older!
Joe Kintz, Hong Kong

I watched it on TV and was not impressed. I hate her haircut and the clothes she wore were not great either. The dancing and choreography were mundane. If I had paid to see her in concert I would have demanded a refund.
Jason, USA

I was not impressed. The costumes were boring. The dancing was just ok. If you are not a Dion fan (which I'm not), I would not spend the money to see it.
Michele, United States

I saw the TV preview and thought it was captivating. How often does a songstress of this skill come along? Can't wait to see the big screen and hear the music in person.
Jessie Nelson, USA

Celine Dion is the best female singer out there, but I could have crawled under the couch while watching the show. Brilliant voice but a boring show. It was sad to watch. I was so looking forward to going to see it. I'll stick to buying the CDs.
Maggie, USA

I thought it was a load of rubbish. Being a Cirque du Soleil fan I guess I was expecting a lot more
Shaughnessey, US

I have always admired Celine, but this show looked poorly conceived - I expected a lot more from the Cirque connection, but was left wanting - Celine's voice was just OK, with too many lapses into her "truck-driver" French-Canadian accent. Costuming and choreography were definitely sub-par for Las Vegas standards. A thorough re-tool is needed, ASAP!
Ric Caley, Canada

I was shocked when I watched the show on CBS. It seemed as though Celine had cut her hair like a man, and was dressing in such a masculine way too. A lot of her old-fashioned charm was gone!
Carol, USA

I thought the show was awful. I thought her hair cut made her look old, her outfits were ugly, and her voice was "squeaky." I would never pay or watch it again.
Janet, USA

I thought it was a load of rubbish. Being a Cirque du Soleil fan I guess I was expecting a lot more. Glad I did not pay to see it. She needs to grow her hair again too.
Shaughnessy, USA

I thought it was a great show and very moving. Keep up the good work.
Kristine Clark, USA

As a volunteer currently working in south east Asia in orphanages and children's hospitals, I am shocked and disgusted that someone, either talentless or not, could be paid that much money when I have seen people living in absolute poverty.

What amazes me about this article is in your "But what do you think?" section, all the people seem to be saying how awful the old ham was at singing, can't these people see that is an obscene amount of money for one person to receieve when there are numerous worthwhile causes that give people a chance in life?
Julian D.Bound, Thailand

Saw her show on television; have tickets to see her in April. It will be worth it! Good choice of songs - old and new. She'll be a real crowd-pleaser. I spoke with a Las Vegas resident yesterday and they are all very excited about the new concert, apparently it is drawing tourists like crazy right now - and that's good for Vegas.
Gay Carroll, USA

Cline has an amazing voice, but such a lack of refinement. She can be so incredibly cheesy! A live performance by her is painful no matter what.
Marie, Canada
