The last ever Cold Feet episode drew more than 10 million viewers on Sunday, according to unofficial overnight figures. The ITV1 programme went out on a record high with viewers, taking almost 50% of the watching audience.
The programme added an extra million viewers to last week's episode, which featured the death of character Rachel, played by Helen Baxendale.
I am very sad to see it end as this was the only decent show on TV |
Writer Mike Bullen has insisted there will be no more episodes of the series, which focused on the lives of three couples living in Manchester. Rival show, BBC One's Clocking Off, drew 3.4 million viewers in the same slot, while The Real John Curry, on Channel 4, attracted 2.1 million viewers as did the film Rising Sun on Five.
Bullen has now turned his attention to a new series, Life Begins, which focuses on the life of people in their 40s.
He told the Sunday Express: "Cold Feet was a series in which all of six main characters shared more or less the same profile, but Life Begins is mainly about this one woman, though of course I'll be introducing other characters."
