Darcey Bussell has a muscular injury in her foot |
Darcey Bussell is still undergoing treatment for an injured foot and will not perform in the Royal Ballet's production of The Sleeping Beauty on Saturday. The principal ballerina had hoped she could return in time for the performance after she injured herself during the ballet's premire last Saturday.
"She is not yet ready to go back on stage and is just taking each day as it comes," said a spokesman for the Royal Ballet.
Ballerina Tamara Rojo will take Bussell's place for Saturday night's performance.
Bussell was replaced for the last two minutes of the ballet's premire by Marianela Nunez, though she managed to take the curtain call.
She was unable to continue after her solo in the final act.
Major production
Bussell is also due to appear in Apollo, Raymonda and Romeo and Juliet at the Royal Opera House in London during the spring and summer.
The Sleeping Beauty is a major production for the Royal Ballet, reportedly costing more than 500,000 to stage.
It is the Royal Ballet's fourth production of Sleeping Beauty since World War II, and critics have said Natalia Makarova's traditional staging could reassert the company's reputation.
