Hollywood Greats: Your views
Sir Michael Caine
Caine has won plaudits for his role in The Quiet American
BBC One series Hollywood Greats profiles Sir Michael Caine in its first programme, as the British actor celebrates his 70th birthday.

Jonathan Ross interviews the man himself, alongside contributions from Shirley MacLaine, Roger Moore and Christopher Reeve.

"Jonathan Ross expects Caine to win an Oscar this year for his role in The Quiet American but that was the only forward-looking element of the show: it feels like a cheery obituary, an end-of-career recap," wrote BBC News Online's William Gallagher.

What do you think?

Is it revealing? Does Jonathan Ross do a good job?

I love Mr Caine. He is the best. The show was a great tribute to my favourite actor

Caine's always good value and Ross comes across as a genuine film fan but a little too cosy for my liking. Very similar to the many other Caine interviews. The only new information I learnt was that there was talk at the time of an Italian Job 2. I wonder if the script was right, would Caine do it now? Over to you Jonathan.
Byron Kendle, Wales

Michael Caine is a phenomenal actor, his performances in such classics as Alfie and Educating Rita and The Fourth Protocol, were just totally believable. He is the essence of understatement and realism, and deserves any awards bestowed on him.

I think that the programmes are excellent - shame about Jonathon Ross! Why can't we have a person who can speak properly and also someone who has a better dress sense?! However he does the show well and I am grateful for that.
Simon, UK

I thought it was great but not quite in depth or long enough, they could have covered another hour easily.
Julia, UK

I thought that last night's Michael Caine interview was very interesting, especially regarding his life. The show could have done with being much longer. The programme did not cover his later films as much indepth as his earlier ones. But still very good.

Am I the only person that finds Michael Caine's acting abilities hugely inflated?
Simon, UK

Whilst Jonathan did a competent job, Parky's recent interview with Sir Michael was superior. It was full of warmth, humour, insight and pathos. Two chaps, of a certain age, at the very top of their game!
Jane, UK

Caine's anecdotes are always great value, and Ross' respectful restraint was apt. A more in-depth exploration of his approach and technique as an actor would have added an extra dimension to a very entertaining show. Easy to under-estimate, Caine is one of the few genuine UK-born movie stars at work today.
Steve, UK

I enjoyed it immensely. Knowing how they get out of the cliff hanger from the Italian Job was worth the entire programme. Jonathan Ross has a great casual style which I thought worked well. And Caine at 70 was wonderful. Truly a great among British actors - turkeys and classics alike - fantastic.
Daniel Coombs, UK

Am I the only person alive who doesn't think Sir Michael Caine can act for toffee? He was originally chosen for his accent (one which was unusual at the time in movies), and has never, to my mind, changed his act since then. This is probably not going to be a very popular point of view, but I'm sorry, he just makes me hit the off button every time.
Joanne, UK

Personally I think Jonathan Ross did a great job, he came across as a genuine fan of the actor and his films. Much better than the tired old format of Parky...very refreshing!
Damon Johns, UK

Michael Caine is great, the programme was too short and Jonathan Ross can present many more programmes for me.. he's genius!
Richard, UK

It was one of the most relaxing, enjoyable programmes I've seen on TV in a long while! Michael Caine is such a nice man, I think some of our younger celebrities could learn a thing or two from him, being brash and full of yourself really doesn't make a star, personality does, and Mr Caine certainly has that in abundance. Happy birthday Sir Michael!
Elaine, UK

In reply to Joanne, UK, yes, you are probably the only person alive who thinks Michael Caine can't act. As mentioned in last night's programme his voice changed the way actors were represented in films in respect that one no longer had to talk with a plumb in one's mouth to get the part. Mr Caine is not really my era but if you compare him to Brad Pitt or Nicole Kidman's ex-husband, I reckon 80% of the population would prefer to see Mr Caine than some of these "moulded" actors.
Mark, UK
