Derelict land will be restored
Dragonfly
The area attracts lots of dragonflies
A piece of common land in north Shrewsbury will be restored to its former glory.

Merrington Green Common, near Bomere Heath, has been in decline since grazing stopped there 20 years ago.

Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council, which owns the site, has agreed to fund more than half of the 45,000 needed to restore the site.

The money will be used to clear rubbish, install cattle grids and clear paths.

The Shropshire Wildlife Trust, which is in charge of the site, has already worked hard to turn it into a wildlife area which attracts a lot of dragonflies.

Restoration work is due to start next month.
