| Sunday, 12 January, 2003, 09:35 GMT Maurice Gibb: A life in pictures Pop star Maurice Gibb, who has died at the age of 53, enjoyed decades of success with his brothers as a member of the Bee Gees. ![]() 1967 saw the breakthrough for Robin, Barry and Maurice (back, l to r, with bandmates Vince and Colin), with a string of hits ![]() Maurice, by then hugely famous, married singer Lulu in 1969, but they split in 1973 as he struggled with alcoholism ![]() In the 1970s, the Bee Gees moved to the US and hit the pinnacle of their career as disco swept the world ![]() The Saturday Night Fever soundtrack sold 30m copies worldwide ![]() Maurice wrote many of the band's hit songs, and his high vocals helped their unique harmonies ![]() The 1980s saw the brothers move into writing and producing, before 1987 come-back hit You Win Again ![]() In the 1990s, the Gibbs received numerous awards and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ![]() By this point they had reached "legend" status and their songs were being covered by numerous young bands ![]() World-wide record sales for the band exceeded 110 million, and they were awarded CBEs in 2002 |
