Sven 'used job' to see Ulrika
Sven Goran Eriksson
Eriksson hopes he will not have to resign
England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson took advantage of trips to watch Premiership matches to meet his lover Ulrika Jonsson, according to her kiss-and-tell autobiography.

Television presenter Jonsson, 35, claims Eriksson used the FA to book her hotel rooms and once whisked her away to Portugal during their affair.

Her book - serialisation in the Mail on Sunday - also claims the 54-year-old was desperate to get out of his relationship with his girlfriend Italian Nancy Dell'Ollio.

Jonsson has reportedly received 1m for her autobiography, titled Honest.

In the first extract published in the Sunday newspaper, she wrote that she met Eriksson at a party held by Tony Blair's spin doctor Alastair Campbell.

She said she asked for an autograph and he replied in Swedish, asking for her telephone number so that he could call her.

Jonsson added that at first she was convinced the man she called "Svennis" merely wanted to "hook up with a fellow ex-pat".

'Action not words'

According to the book, Eriksson first visited her on 2 January this year after watching Newcastle United play Manchester United at Old Trafford and arrived at her home with champagne and gifts for her children, Bo and Cameron.

Jonsson said he confided in her that he wanted to end his relationship with Miss Dell'Olio because it was "sapping him" of energy.

Eriksson then called her every day during a week-long holiday with the Italian lawyer and visited her again on 18 January when he travelled to see Leicester City play Newcastle United the following day, she said.

Jonsson added that on another occasion he told her she was "so beautiful" and kissed her.

"I reciprocated without needing to think about it," she wrote.

The day after Eriksson's 54th birthday on 6 February , she said he visited her at home, adding: "We made love and briefly fell asleep in each other's arms, before he reluctantly left."

No ultimatum

She said at times she felt reluctant to give away how she felt for him.

"Besides, my actions spoke louder than words," she added.

The pair's affair hit the headlines in April.

It was Jonsson who finally ended the speculation, issuing a statement admitting they had been close.

But she strongly denied allegations that she issued him an ultimatum to leave his girlfriend.

Ahead of the match on Saturday Eriksson said he had not been put under pressure by speculation that he may have compromised his position as manager because of the relationship.

"I don't think it's made the job more difficult," he said

"Around the job, life has been a little bit more difficult, I can't deny that."

Eriksson said he would have to "wait and see" what was contained in the book.
