| Monday, 22 April, 2002, 00:06 GMT 01:06 UK Sven and girlfriend 'closer than ever' ![]() TV star Ulrika Jonsson has not denied the affair England football coach Sven-Goran Eriksson's long-term girlfriend is insisting the saga of his alleged affair with TV star Ulrika Jonsson has brought them closer together. Following a day in which the alleged affair was splashed across most Sunday newspapers, Nancy Dell'Olio said things are "much, much clearer". Speaking of the alleged affair, Eriksson's partner of three years, said: "Nothing has changed, it doesn't mean anything." Asked if she and Eriksson were still together, she said: "I think it's a really stupid question.
The 37-year-old was speaking through the intercom of the luxury flat she shares with 53-year-old Eriksson in London's exclusive Regent's Park. The Italian lawyer spoke only briefly to reporters and had spent much of the day behind shutters and curtains in the flat with Eriksson after they returned together late last night from dinner. No denials Both the England boss and 34-year-old Jonsson - who split from public relations chief Simon Astaire, 40, last year - remain silent on the issue. Former Gladiators presenter Jonsson is famed for being on the panel of BBC Two's spoof quiz show Shooting Stars, fronted by Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer. Eriksson spoke only once to journalists through the intercom when they asked if he had anything to say. "Nothing. Bye bye," he replied. He later left his home with his football assistant Tord Grip at 1455 BST and left in his chauffeur-driven blue Mercedes without commenting. Jonsson returned home to Cookham Dean, Berkshire, just before 1500 BST and when asked if she had any comment, she replied: "About what?"
Meanwhile, Sunday's newspapers included claims it was "love at first sight" for Jonsson and that "pint-sized" Eriksson leaves his built-up boots outside her bedroom to warn the nanny when he is visiting. The News of the World claimed Jonsson's nanny caught the Swedish duo in a compromising position. Its features editor, Gary Thompson, would not reveal the source of his story, but he told the BBC: "We have spoken to people who know Ulrika very well, we have also spoken to people who know Sven very well.
Neither has confirmed or denied the reports, but the presenter's mother, Gun Brodie, told a Swedish newspaper she thinks the couple "have a future together". Only Ms Dell'Olio has spoken out to deny the alleged relationship. Speaking on Saturday she told reporters: "I'm with my man, leave us alone." Through an intercom she added: "We're still together and we're talking together. What the papers are saying is rubbish. It's the facts we're talking about." | See also: Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top Showbiz stories now: Links to more Showbiz stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
