One Hour Photo: Your views
Connie Nielsen with Robin Williams in the background
Director Mark Romanek has not made a film since 1985
Hot on the heels of Insomnia, where he played a reclusive novelist, Robin Williams returns to play a stalker in One Hour Photo.

Williams is Sy, a seemingly harmless photolab worker, who becomes obsessed with a family whose photographs he often develops.

"While the film could have resorted to standard psycho-thriller histrionics, it is a far more subtle piece of work, with some of the most startling visuals and imagery to grace a movie screen all year," wrote BBC News Online's Caroline Westbrook.

But what do you think?

Have your say

I saw One Hour Photo at the weekend and I have to say Robin Williams can sure play creepy characters! It's one of those films when you know his creepy but you have to feel sorry for him at the same time. Top film.

This is a superb film, dark and brooding - infused with menace. A startling comment about how the need for connection - when it cannot find an appropriate outlet - can have devastating effects. Supremely relevant to 21st century society.

I enjoyed the film, but it will not appeal to a lot of people. It is disturbing, strange, sad and a number of other things. It is no feel good movie by far. I like movies so I enjoy films of all types and this is one of the best films I have seen this year. Williams is excellent and you never know what is going to happen next. The film will have you talking about it for a good few days afterwards.

What a creepy storyline, it makes me think twice about where I get all my pics processed!

While this movie is unlikely to be in the running come Oscar night, it is never-the-less a solid, though ultimately slightly frustrating movie.

Robin Williams gives an excellent performance as Sy - measured, one paced but that is perfect for the character; you always expect Sy to crack, it is just a question of when. The rest of the cast had little to do, but did it well, in particular a nice appearance from Gary Cole as Sy's boss, but in reality this is indeed a vehicle for Williams to prove he can play other roles than his usual manic fare. In that, he succeeds.

My only real complaint would be the slightly obvious ending - I found Sy's reasons for what he did a bit too easy. Without wishing to spoil the story for those who haven't seen it, I think the writers went for the easy option in the end and this cheapened the movie as a whole.

That gripe aside, the cinematography is interesting, the entire movie has a fascinating, sterile feel and there is enough story in there to keep most people caring until the end.

Worth seeing in this slow time for new releases.
David Kay, Belgium

It's great to see Robin Williams in something a lot less sugary sweet for a change. He's great as Sy who is really just a very lonely, isolated character who craves a family and social life. I didn't feel as sorry for the family, at the end of the film, as I did for Sy.

What a creepy storyline, it makes me think twice about where I get all my pics processed!!! Williams did a great job, he ought to be up for an Oscar for this... we need a dark character around for the Oscars.
Alisha, London

Completely captivating and a real detachment from his usual comic style. The film is stylish, unnervingly real and a real triumph

Creepy .... , but not for long: after a while, just dull.
Christopher James, UK

While I enjoyed Williams's Imsomnia, the most out of his recent dark trilogy, I still found One Hour Photo very good. It has its dark comedic moments but leaves you wishing to forget it pretty quickly once finished. Williams's acting as the sad socially neglected Uncle Sye is flawless and Connie Nielsen is also superb as the photogenic but troubled wife in the supposedly perfect family. It is only at the end of the movie that we discover Williams's abusive childhood. It is also probes the laws surrounding stalking and threatening behaviour. Darn fine acting but very dark.

I was fortunate enough to see a screening of One Hour Photo this week, followed by a Q&A with Robin Williams. Williams gives a stellar performance in this film. Completely captivating and a real detachment from his usual comic style. The film is stylish, unnervingly real and a real triumph.
