Claudia Winkleman and Colin Paterson will replace the late Christopher Price as host of BBC Choice's Liquid News programme.

Former Holiday and National Lottery presenter Winkleman, 30, will co-host the show from 6 October with 28-year-old Paterson - currently a reporter on the show.

They are among the stars who have acted as stand-in hosts of the show since Price was found dead at his central London home in April.

The 34-year-old, regarded as one of the rising stars of the BBC, died of a rare brain disease similar to meningitis.

Winkleman and Paterson will take it in turns to host the show until the October relaunch.

Before the relaunch the programme will move to a 1900 slot on BBC Choice from 5 August and its late-night weekly showings on BBC One will continue.

The new presenters admitted Price would be a hard act to follow.

"It is testament to his amazing talent that it will take four clumsy feet to fill his shoes," said Winkleman.

Paterson, who joined Liquid News from Channel 4's old morning show The Big Breakfast a year ago, said: "Christopher was fantastic to work with. He made me feel welcome right from the start. I learned a lot from him."

He described his new role as "the best job in television, well apart from roving reporter on the World Darts".

The Glaswegian recently covered the World Cup for Liquid News and writes a weekly music column for The Guardian.

It will be the first time Paterson and Winkleman have worked together, but they say they will make a good team.

"She's very Hello! and I'm more Viz," said Paterson.

"I don't think we'll be Anne and Nick or Richard and Judy - we'll be more like Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepherd in Moonlighting, but without the singing career."

Winkleman added: "I think it will be very funny. I will just sit there and hold his hand under the desk if we get a difficult guest. I want us to be like Torvill and Dean."

A BBC spokeswoman said the corporation was delighted with the new appointments.

"It's great that we have got two people who will take the show onwards and upwards," she added.
