Singer Kylie Minogue led tributes to the presenter, who fronted entertainment news programme Liquid News on BBC Choice and BBC One.

Price was found collapsed at his home at 1645 BST on Monday after failing to turn up for work.

He was confirmed dead at the scene less than two hours later.

"The post-mortem did not establish an exact cause of death at this stage and we await the results of further tests," a police spokesman said.

Minogue paid tribute to Price by saying that being interviewed by him was "like a shining light in an otherwise predictable day of promotion".

"I was very much looking forward to meeting him again. It is a tragic loss," she said.

Roger Mosey, the head of BBC television news, said Price was "highly talented".

Price started his career as a journalist in BBC local radio, moving to Radio Five Live and News 24 before joining BBC Choice.

Hundreds of fans of the show e-mailed BBC News Online with their tributes to Price and placed messages on the Liquid News website's message board.

Liquid News was being lined up to become one of the leading programmes on the proposed digital channel BBC Three.
