LWT has confirmed it is in the final stages of putting together a new show similar to the Survivor format where inhabitants vote each other off an island until there is an ultimate winner. Provisionally titled Get Me Out of Here: I'm a Celebrity, the show will see famous faces try to survive on basic rations in a remote setting, while trying to bond with each other. No details of who will be taking part have yet been released but the show is expected to get underway before the end of the summer. Names that have been bandied around as possible contenders include Spice Girl Mel B, actress Patsy Kensit, hypnotist Paul McKenna and aristocrat Lady Victoria Hervey.
A group of celebrities had the television nation gripped as they took part in a celebrity version of Big Brother in the UK. Jack Dee, Claire Sweeney, Vanessa Feltz, Chris Eubank, Keith Duffy and Anthea Turner opted to stay in the Big Brother house for a week in aid of Comic Relief. Career booster Channel 4 shared its reality TV format with the BBC for the charity event. More than 12 million viewers tuned in to watch comedian Dee emerge from the house victorious. Although the show was for charity it did help boost the careers of some of the celebrities, especially former Brookside actress Claire Sweeney. Since she emerged as a runner-up she has gone on to star in a West End musical, presented TV shows and recorded an album. But celebrities should beware of trying to use reality TV shows as platform to breath life back into a flagging showbiz career. TV presenter Feltz did not emerge from Celebrity Big Brother with much credibility as she faced ridicule for her somewhat erratic behaviour during her stay in the house. | See also: 13 Mar 02 | Entertainment 13 Mar 02 | Entertainment 25 Jul 01 | Entertainment 25 Jul 01 | Entertainment 17 Mar 01 | Entertainment 13 Mar 01 | Entertainment Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top Entertainment stories now: Links to more Entertainment stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
