| Wednesday, 5 June, 2002, 17:33 GMT 18:33 UK Gallaghers 'could be new Osbournes' The Gallagher brothers have a colourful relationship Noel Gallagher has hinted he might be prepared to allow fly-on-the-wall footage to be used for an Osbournes-style show, a music website has reported. Gallagher said a long-established roadie with Oasis had been filming footage for seven years of the various scrapes the band got into. He told NME.com he might even be prepared to let hidden cameras be installed in his house.
Spin-offs and copycats are being considered in television commissioning offices on both sides of the Atlantic. Gallagher said: "The roadie's had a video camera since 1995, and he just films everything and he's got tons of stuff. Us getting pulled at customs and stuff like that." He told NME.com he saw parallels between British rock's most famous brothers and the Osbournes. 'Too self-conscious' "Obviously we understand it because that's the way we talk," Noel said. "It looked funny. I would get too self-conscious... because there's things that just wouldn't be real. "Unless they hid [the cameras] in your house and you didn't know. That would be fantastic.
Jo Pilkington, Sky TV's senior commissioning executive, told NME.com: "The Osbournes is great TV and I can't think of a better set-up to replicate The Osbournes than Oasis. "We would be mad not to be interested, although a lot of other stations would be interested as well. "But it depends on access. It's clear that, for The Osbournes, it's 24/7 access. That would have to be sorted. "You want them together the whole time. It's much more interesting to see punch-ups. They make good telly." Osbournes condoms? Meanwhile, the merchandising company working with The Osbournes franchise is already bullish about likely sales. Basic products like t-shirts and mugs are already out in the US, with goods such as backpacks, trading cards and watches reaching American stores in the next two months. Del Furano, chief executive of Signatures Network, which signed an exclusive agreement to develop the merchandise for The Osbournes, estimates sales will be about $200m (137.2m). As well as t-shirts with slogans like "The Osbournes: The Parents You Wish You Had", he said: "There's interest for condoms, slot machines and video games." | See also: 15 Apr 02 | Entertainment 22 Apr 02 | Entertainment 31 May 02 | Entertainment 29 May 02 | Entertainment 27 May 02 | Entertainment 10 May 02 | Newsmakers Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top Entertainment stories now: Links to more Entertainment stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
