A union representing British Airways staff says it is "cautiously optimistic" about a merger between the airline and Iberia.
On Thursday, BA and Iberia reached a preliminary agreement for a merger expected to be completed in late 2010.
Mick Rix, from the GMB union, said it the merger was a "good news story".
He added: "A friendly merger is far better than a hostile takeover"
