Unemployment is at its highest level for 14 years. It increased by 210,000 to 2.47m in the three months to July, taking the jobless rate to 7.9%.
The narrower claimant count - people claiming Jobseekers Allowance - is around 1.6m - is up but the rate of increase has slowed in recent months.
