The number of people out of work in the UK has risen by 210,000 in the three months to July, the latest official figures show.

One person who recently lost his job is Peter Baldry, a former railway worker laid off at the end of July.

His wife, Jan, works part-time in a local school and as a carer, but her salary doesn't begin to cover the outgoings. She is also off work after falling down the stairs.

The family enjoys the support of Haverhill charity foodbank, but as they told Emma Simpson, life without a full-time salary is making things very difficult.
