Watch sales lift LVMH's profits
Tag Heuer watches
LVMH said watch sales were particularly strong
Luxury goods-maker LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton has seen sales rise 7%, helped by strong demand for its high-end watches.

The French group, which owns Tag Heuer and Zenith watches, made overall sales of 3.8bn euros ($5.2bn; 2.6bn) in the first three months of this year.

The figure beat market expectations, and compares with 3.56bn euros for the same first-quarter period in 2006.

LVMH added that its like-for-like sales grew 13% from a year earlier.

Its watch division saw a 20% rise in sales to 189m euros.

The Paris-based company sells everything from wine and spirits, to perfume and luggage.

Its other well-known brands include Veuve Clicquot and Moet et Chandon champagne, Dior perfume, and Fendi shoes.
