Drinks and bling boost LVMH sales

Louis Vuitton shops are found across the globe
Demand for its wines, spirits and jewellery have helped French luxury goods maker LVMH post an 11% rise in sales in the first nine months of 2006.

LVMH - which incorporates the initials of Louis Vuitton and Moet Hennessey - is the maker of products including Dior perfume and Krug champagne.

It said sales totalled 10.6bn euros (7.1bn; $13.3bn) in the nine months.

The firm added that it was anticipating a "very significant increase" in its full-year earnings.

Analysts said that the celebrity culture, and the public's hunger for a slice of the "bling" lifestyle lived by their idols, is seen as fuelling the demand for luxury brands.

Like other high-end product makers, it is also benefiting from the strength of the world economy.

The latest LVMH figures imply third-quarter sales of 3.66bn euros, year-on-year a rise of 6.8%.

Like-for-like sales of fashion and leather goods climbed 11% while wines and spirits sales grew 12% on the same period a year ago.
