Motorola is to license its set-top box technology
Comcast, the largest US cable TV company, has agreed a $1bn (519m) deal to buy TV set-top boxes from US technology firm Motorola.

The firms said the set-top agreement covered boxes with top-of-the-range high-definition digital video recording, and entry-level boxes.

The market for set-top boxes that control access to cable or digital TV is becoming increasingly competitive.

The firms will also form joint ventures to develop video-control technology.
