Low cost airline Easyjet has said it is on course for a 16% rise in profits this year after a strong summer. In a trading update, the firm said it expected full year profits to come in at 60m, higher than earlier forecast.
However, it said yields would remain under pressure in 2005 and that it intended to scale back plans to expand its fleet of aircraft.
The firm also said it would launch five new routes including UK flights to Ireland for the first time.
Action pays off
"Easyjet has enjoyed improved trading during the final quarter of 2004," said chief executive Ray Webster.
"I am pleased to report that the actions we are taking to strengthen our competitive position has begun to pay off."
The airline said it expected passenger levels to exceed 24.2m in 2004.
Easyjet now plans to increase its fleet by approximately 16% next year, not 24% as previously planned.
