Tough competition and high fuel prices are facing Easyjet |
UK budget airline Easyjet saw passenger numbers jump by 24% in August, compared with the same month of 2003. The carrier carried 2.46 million people to destinations across Europe.
The load factor, which measures the number of seats filled as a percentage of the airline's total capacity, was up 0.5% to 88.6%.
Easyjet shares dived in June after the group warned oil costs and a price war in the no-frills airline sector would dent its performance this year.
"August was a good month for easyJet with load factors up marginally despite the late UK bank holiday pushing demand for return journeys into September," said chief executive Ray Webster.
Easyjet said it would be flying a total of 176 routes over the winter season, an increase of 70 on the previous year.
