Thus, which operates internet and telecoms services as well as call centres, has posted narrower-than-expected losses.

It also said it was confident of meeting full-year expectations on sales.

Thus said it had cut pre-tax losses by 67% in the six months to 30 September, to 10.2m ($17.3m) from 30.8m ($52.2m).

The group said it was on target to turn in an operating profit in the second half of next year to 31 March, 2005.

Expansion of contracts

Chief executive William Allan said that while he remained cautious about the overall outlook for the UK economy, he remained upbeat on prospects for Thus.

The company was founded by Scottish Power in 1994, and floated in 1999 before being fully demerged in 2002.

It handles work from customers like Scottish Power and Sky and Book Club Associates.

Thus lost the Microsoft account due to the consolidation of its contact centres in Europe, but is confident of recovery in the second half from the recent expansion of existing accounts and new contracts.
