The BBC's Alastair Leithead says protesters have left the main area in their Bangkok camp after the Thai military smashed through barricades and entered the camp.
It is being reported that the army operation has now been halted to allow people to leave and that several senior members of the anti-government red-shirts have handed themselves in.
