Taiwan's defence minister Chen Chao-min has offered to resign following public anger that the government was too slow responding to Typhoon Morakot.
More than 500 people are believed to have been killed in the deadliest typhoon to hit the country in 50 years when it struck two weeks' ago.
Mr Chao-min was criticised for not dispatching soldiers early enough.
However the government has said the focus now needs to be on helping those who survived.
