China's official media has repeated claims published on Monday in a Hong Kong newspaper that China had broken up a Taiwanese spy ring. Taiwan has denied the claims, which were first reported in the Ming Pao newspaper.
China's official news agency, Xinhua, said 24 spies from Taiwan and 19 from mainland China had been arrested.
Taiwan's Vice President Annette Lu said on Wednesday that China's claims were designed to disturb next year's presidential election in Taiwan.
