Bungee jumping had been off-limits

Singapore has decided it's time to make life a little more exciting.

In an attempt to throw off its staid image, the government has announced a ban on bungee jumping is to be lifted.

"If we want our people to make more decisions for themselves, and if we are to encourage a derring-do society, we must allow some-risk taking and a little excitement," said Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong.

And the official move to make traditionally straight-laced Singaporeans a little more wild and crazy does not stop there.

Bars are to be allowed to stay open longer and dancing on bars - once a legal offence - will also be permitted.

An "Audience Development Fund" has been established to educate public taste in art.

And the government says it will start employing openly gay people - once taboo.

Singapore is renowned for its high standard of living but strict regulations.
