UN chief: 'Major relief effort required' to help Haiti

The head of UN mission in Haiti and his deputy are both missing, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has said.

The UN has released immediately $10m in aid funds for the Haiti emergency, he also announced.

He made the comments during a news conference at the UN headquarters in New York.
