The US ambassador to Afghanistan, Karl Eikenberry, and the top military commander in the country, General Stanley McChrystal, are facing two days of questioning by Congress in Washington.
They will be making the case for sending the extra 30,000 American troops to Afghanistan that President Obama announced last week. Jonathan Beale reports from Washington.
