US President Barack Obama has said the United States and European Union have agreed to redouble their efforts in creating "a framework for progress" ahead of the Copenhagen meetings.
The president said the US intended to expand trade and "resist protectionist measures between the United States and the European Union".
European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso backed the US president's efforts to combat climate change.
