Venezuelan police fired tear gas on hundreds of protesters in Caracas who were demonstrating both for and against a proposed law to radically alter the country's education system.
Supporters of President Hugo Chavez say the move will modernise the education system in the oil-rich nation.
Opponents say it will lead to indoctrination in schools and universities.
