President Obama has announced what he called a "comprehensive strategy" to co-ordinate the security and political challenges of both Afghanistan and Pakistan.
He said America's and the world's interest requires intensified action because al-Qaeda is regrouping in Pakistan and preparing fresh terror attacks.
