Obama reacts to campaign "smears"

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has said his Republican rivals are trying to "distract with smears rather than talk about substance".

Mr Obama's comments come after US Republican vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin accused him of associating with terrorists.
