| Sunday, 24 November, 2002, 15:14 GMT In pictures: Nigeria's Miss World riots Tensions remain high in the northern Nigerian city of Kaduna following four days of violent protests over the Miss World beauty pageant - which the country had been due to host. ![]() More than 200 people died in the sectarian clashes ![]() Police fired teargas and guns to disperse violent crowds ![]() Members of Nigeria's military and police forces were accused of gunning people down without provocation ![]() One man said police came to collect his sons on Friday morning. By evening they were dead. ![]() Thousands fled for their lives as bands of Muslims and Christians attacked each other with rocks and rifles. ![]() The riots were sparked by Muslim anger over a newspaper story about the beauty pageant. ![]() Miss World contestants left their hotel late Saturday night and boarded a bus to the airport ![]() The contestants arrived in London, where the competition will now be held, on Sunday morning |
