Benji B with the Jazzy Sport crew
Benji B:
The Tokyo entries

My first proper day in Tokyo city. Hit the Shibuya record shop district... nothing but vinyl madness. There's over 40 specialist record places on 1 square mile. Only managed 2 today so there's a full 7 days worth to get through!

Hooked up with the Jazzy Sport record shop crew. They've been sending me tunes for my 1Xtra show for about a year. Hip Hop, breaks, Detroit Jazz, soul... you name it, they've got right selection. It's open until midnight everyday and, I've gotta say, the place is highly recommended.

Picked up some specials from DJ Mitsu for my show later this week. Then Mitsu hooked me up with the legendary Toshio Matsuura, ex UFO and an original player in the Tokyo club scene. No joke, he took me to Annexe records where there were mad, crazy old skool gems. Heck, I'd already spent £100 at that stage.

By the time I was dragged away from all those records I was late for Toshio Matsuura's weekly radio show on Shibuya FM 78.4, which is broadcasted every Monday night. This week yours truly co-presented. We did the show in English and Japanese. You need to check out my Tokyo Devivation Special to hear his interview (midnight, Thursday night/Friday morning).

Finished the night off with some sake and the best sea eel nigiri I've ever had. Plus the meal was set in penthouse restaurant which overlooks the skyline. Respect Tosh!

Just staggered back to the hotel with the record box and ready to hit bed. Check you lot soon. You know I'm loving it right?!
