  • Puffy introduces the world to Mary J. Blige, releasing her first album What's the 411?, a landmark album in the world of RnB.

  • A level student Stephen Lawrence is murdered by a group of white men while waiting for a bus in South East London. His killers are never captured.

  • London garage scene DJs like The Dreem Teem start playing US garage instrumentals pitched up. It evolves into a distinct sound and the name 'speed garage' is coined.

  • Tiger Woods makes golf history at the US Masters by becoming the youngest champion and the first black player to win a major tournament.
